In 2021, 4 Primary Care Networks (Jesmond & Lower Gosforth, Newcastle East, North Gosforth and Outer West Gateshead) came together to work on a digital project to improve their websites after identifying that the design and consistency of existing sites was creating a barrier to some patients using it. To develop websites that reflect the needs and wants of the patient population they serve, enabling improved access to information and support, they needed to understand what patients want from their GP website.
To ensure that as many people as possible could share their views without being excluded through reasons such as digital disadvantage, language, mobility or other factors, we took the most accessible approach and engaged directly with community organisations representing groups who may have specific needs and preferences. We spoke to representatives or service users of 14 organisations representing these often marginalised groups:
- Ethnically minoritised people
- Carers
- Children and Young People
- Disabled People
- LGBTQ+ People
- Men
- Older People
- People requiring support around emotional wellbeing
The findings were reflective of the varying needs of this diverse range of people. Read them here
