NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group undertook a review of end of life services for adults in Newcastle and ahead of developing an End of Life Strategy and Action Plan for Adults. As part of the review they identified a gap in evidence around people’s experiences of end of life care and also their preferences at end of life particularly with regard to seldom heard groups.
An engagement exercise took place between July and November 2016 gathering the experiences, views and expectations of end of life care from people living in Newcastle. Patients who were receiving palliative care and people from five seldom heard groups took part.
