A mapping exercise to understand how Patient Participation Groups are currently operating across Newcastle and Gateshead

NHS Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (NGCCG) supports GP practices to establish and maintain Patient Participation Groups (PPG).

In the context of significant structural change for the NHS with the development of Primary Care Networks and Integrated Care Systems and the global pandemic, it was felt that it would be timely to conduct a mapping exercise to understand the current level of PPG activity across Newcastle and Gateshead.

The findings will be used to help develop a strong foundation for patient, carer and public engagement and involvement within and between these new structures.

The report provides a summary of responses from 56 practices to an online questionnaire in July 2021. Please note that this is a snapshot in time, as COVID-19 restrictions reduce it is likely that PPG engagement activities will change. Read it here.

Since publishing this report we have shared these findings with the public at Newcastle’s Patient, Public and Carer Engagement Forum, and with GP staff at the GP Time Out sessions.
