In 2022 we provided engagement support for the Children, Young People & Families Team (Gateshead) around the development of a Teenage Resource for young people aged 13 to 25. The resource will contain advice and information around topics such as mental health, body image, weight difficulties, bullying, smoking, sexual exploitation, drugs & alcohol etc.
The development of this resource has been driven by young people. Previous engagement activities in 2021 explored the content they would like to see included, its format and some ideas around what it could be called. From this information mock-ups of the front cover, including a name, strapline and images were developed, and we designed a fun and interactive focus group to gather young people’s preferences on these.
In April 2022 we held 6 focus groups with 37 young people aged 13-25, living in Gateshead. We ensured we heard from voices that are often marginalised through linking in with groups for young people who are neurodivergent, and LGBTQ+. The feedback gathered was passed on to the Children, Young People & Families Team to inform the next stage of development of the resource.
